Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by
celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. This month provides an opportunity not only to reflect on the legacy of Hispanic pioneers but also to celebrate the ongoing impact of Latinos in areas like education, government, and entrepreneurship. It’s a reminder that Hispanic heritage is woven into the fabric of our beautiful United States of America, California and Santa Clarita, enriching its diversity and fostering a strong, unified community.
In Santa Clarita major Hispanic celebrations started with the founding of the SCV Latino Chamber of
Commerce in 2009. That organization created the annual Gala at the Hyatt Valencia, the Cinco de Mayo on
Main Street in Newhall, and the summer Salsa Dancing Festival at the William S. Hart Park. After seven
years, they had over 200 business owners and members. In 2016 they were invited to join the established
SCV Chamber of Commerce and accepted. They are now the Latino Business Alliance (LBA).
Latinos continue to share their cultures and contribute in many ways to the betterment of Santa Clarita.
